What is vermeil?
Vermeil comes from the 19th century. It is a technique in which a thick layer of 2.5-3.0 micron gold is applied to sterling silver to make it look like pure gold but without its weighty price tag. 18k gold is known for its brilliant colour, durability and quality. The thicker the layer of gold, the higher the quality of the vermeil jewelry. This complex procedure differs significantly from normal gold plating with 0.5 microns.
